The Brief
Thirteen Housing Group asked us to produce a film about the New Start programme it supports. The multi agency scheme helps people who have been out of work for a long period of time, find a way back into employment. The film was required for an event and needed to show the real-life impact of the programme, while being sensitive to the complex personal journeys involved.
Our Approach
We worked closely with THG and its partners to identify two case study participants and shape their stories. Rather than recounting events, we focused on the emotional and practical difference the scheme had made in their lives. Drawing on our experience of working with contributors who may lack confidence, we created a supportive environment that allowed each person’s story to shine. Filming combined natural light, soft-focus cutaways and dynamic gimbal shots that were slowed down, capturing not just the workplace but moments of warmth, connection and pride. Each story was told in turn, with employer perspectives woven in to provide context and depth.
The Result
Filmed over one day across locations, we guided the nervous, first-time contributors through the process with care. In post, we added music, graphics and pace to match the tone. The final film was praised internally and at the event. It exceeded expectations and demonstrated how powerful sensitive storytelling can be.
