We LOVE making films about the wonderful place in which we live and work. Hambleton District Council asked us to create a film for its annual business awards to celebrate its 10 year anniversary and what would be the final event before the council merged to become a new unitary authority. Our brief was to cover the impact the council’s support had had on local businesses in a way that would get the event off to a great start!
A lot can happen in 10 years, so there were a great many achievements, events and milestones to consider including in the film. Our first task was to sift through these and try to create a structure. We suggested different categories for the content that we could form into chapters to develop the theme of business growth. We knew we wanted to include interviews to personalise the achievements, but decided additional graphics and pictures would help supplement these and create an information rich film. Our next task was to select the “stories” that would best illustrate these themes in a way that ensured balance of coverage in terms of sectors and geography. As ever, pre production was detailed and there were many discussions before a camera was even turned on.
Our plan in place, we filmed over 3 days across the district, shooting both interviews and additional footage to illustrate some of the facts we were planning to display as graphics. While we filmed, our editor created a taster of the graphics style which used the brand created specifically for the event. Once approved, we edited the film in line with our detailed script, adding filmed and static images, graphics, and several pieces of music.
The team at Hambleton were absolutely delighted with the film, which prompted tears of joy amongst some! We were lucky enough to be at the event when it was played and it was great to see the reaction in the room and afterwards. Hambleton told us “We loved the film. Everyone thought it told a genuine story of our work. You are a great team thanks for all your hard work”
