We were chosen to make a video to launch GO CONSTRUCT on behalf of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). Our brief was to make the construction industry appealing to a young audience. We had to showcase the many careers on offer and include key facts and figures, but needed to keep a diverse and easily distracted audience engaged.
We came up with the concept of using social media as a visual device throughout the film and used a young actor to explore the industry and its different careers. The client agreed this was a great way to appeal to the target audience. We wanted to express both the impressive scale and professional nature of the industry, so suggested aerial imagery of large sites, but combined this with shots of a glossy London office to give a holistic view of all the opportunities available in construction.
Having developed a shooting script, we negotiated access to the sites that offered us a range of filming opportunities, before filming the video over two days in two locations. It was shot using cameras on a gimbal for smooth movement, along with aerial shots from our in house drone. This meant we could move quickly from each scene, allowing us to explore a diverse range of careers in a short time frame. We created graphics in line with the brand and used hashtags to succinctly describe the many opportunities and answer questions that the target audience might have.
The film has now had over 4,000 views on YouTube and is used regularly in colleges and at careers fairs. Such was its success that we’ve been asked to make a number of other films for the brand. We’ve made a series of “shorts” about the careers available, a large number of clips to populate social media and raise brand awareness, along with covering industry events. The video brand we developed as part of the process is now used across all Go Construct video content.
CITB says “Richard and his team are great with us and our customers and know how to put everyone at ease. Adding creative value where ever they can, such as animating the logo – outstanding work”
